Advanced Engineering Solutions have signed a contract with TARURA on 22nd FEBRUARY, 2019 for the project: SIGNING OF CONTRACT FOR: CONSULTANCY SERVICES FOR FEASIBILITY STUDY, DETAILED ENGINEERING DESIGN AND PREPARATION OF TENDER DOCUMENTS FOR UPGRADING OF WENDA – MGAMA ROAD (19KM) IN IRINGA DISTRICT – IHEMI CLUSTER AND MTILI – IFWAGI – MKUTA ROAD (14KM) IN MUFINDI DISTRICT – IHEMI CLUSTER TO APPROPRIATE SEALING STANDARD. TENDER NO. AE/092/2018/2019/HQ /C/04 – LOT 1.

Iringa Rural, Mufindi and Kilolo Districts in Iringa Region form part of the Ihemi cluster defined by the Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania (SAGCOT). The area is recognized by its highest agricultural productivity potential where a variety of crops including maize, paddy/rice, pulses, sunflower, banana, tea, potatoes, wheat, cattle, pigs, poultry, horticulture and timber are grown.  However, the area lacks good road network connectivity especially during rainy seasons and is among the areas of the country with high poverty levels despite high economic potentials. Most roads in the area are unpaved with a combination of earth and gravel sections. Absence of proper drainage systems makes the roads suffer damages during rainy seasons and hampering the extraction of full agriculture potentials from the area and exacerbating transportation costs. Also, access to social (e.g. schools, health centers) and economic (e.g. markets, employment centers) services and facilities is very limited. The Development Objectives (PDO) of the RISE project is to Improve and sustain road connectivity in the selected agricultural potential areas and to build capacity in the sustainable management of rural roads. In order to boost access to market and improve connectivity to social economic services and facilities, it is pertinent to develop an all-weather road network in the area by upgrading all the unpaved roads to the appropriate sealing standard.  TARURA has selected the Wenda – Mgama road (19km) in Iringa DC and Mtili – Ifwagi (14km) road in Mufindi DC as pilot projects. Necessary studies will be conducted on this upgrade to the standard that will enable the roads to be passable throughout the year. The studies will also serve as Advanced Studies for Roads to Inclusion and Socioeconomic Opportunities (RISE) Programme which the World Bank intends to finance in the area.
